This fun technique may have different names: ice candle, cheese candle, moon candle... but the result is always a candle with a great look: full of holes ! The finishing touch can also differ and give the finished candle a different look but in this article, we will make the basic version of this candle, without flourish. The secret of this great candle with a tortured look? Ice blocks !!!
Now that we've seen how to make a pillar candle, why not add some color to it? In this project, we're making a pillar candle made of several layers of wax with different colors. The only difficulty here is to know when it's time to pour the next layer: not too soon or the colors will mix but not too late or the layers may not stick together and eventually separate. It's really a question of timing!
This interesting project combines the techniques of 3 different types of candles: the pillar, hurricane and Container candles. We'll take the following steps: fill a pillar mold (without a wick) with colored paraffin and, when the wax starts to harden (it always starts with the sides of the mold) and a hard shell about 5mm thick has formed, pour out the remaining (still liquid) wax and let the shell cool off completely. Then, install the wick and fill the shell with a container wax blend of a different color. The result is an original, nice-looking candle.
