The Ultimate Guide to Soy Candlemaking From Hobby Enthusiasts to Business Professionals This is the first book ever written teaching step-by-step instructions on how to make beautiful soy candles right in your kitchen and turn your hobby into a profitable home-based business. Secrets passed on from a professional candle artisan with over 11 years experience in the candlemaking industry.
The Chemical History of a Candle: With an Introduction by Frank A.J.L. James Michael Faraday's celebrated series of lectures,The Chemical History of a Candle, turned into one of the most successful science books ever published and was a classic work of Victorian popular science. They also reflect how Faraday, the bookbinder's apprentice turned scientist, was a remarkable communicator of science.
First published in 1861 they have remained continuously in print ever since. Covering a wide range of basic scientific knowledge, much of which still has relevance today, The Chemical History of a Candle draws out the science behind the candle flame; a familiar yet complex example of combustion, and a source of fascination as much today as it was then. Timed to mark the 150th anniversary of the first publication, Frank James presents a new edition of the lectures, which, for the first time, includes a facsimile of Faraday's original handwritten lecture notes, never before published. Including an introduction from Frank James this new edition provides the historical context and background to his lectures, and to Faraday himself.
cover Médaille d'Or The Complete Candlemaker Probably one of the best candlemaking projects book available, our Gold medal. Interesting for both beginners and more advanced candlemakers.
Superbly illustrated, "The Complete Candlemaker" reviews almost all existing techniques and presents, for each of them, detailed explanations and intelligible, easy to understand and - above all - achievable projects!
If you have only two books on your candlemaking bookshelf, let them be this one and "The candlemaker's companion".
cover Médaille d'Argent The Encyclopedia of Candlemaking Techniques Here's another very good projects book. Silver medal. Once again, all techniques are explored into the details and the reading of this book will make you want to rush to your workplace and immediatly start reproducing the presented projects.
Magnificiently illustrated, almost exhaustive: highly recommended.
cover Médaille de Bronze Great Candles The bronze medal of all candlemaking projects books.
Like the previous one, this book details the majority of existing techniques but the projects are presented with less details.
However, it gains points by making use - whenever possible - of pieces of equipment you probably already have at home and not expensive specialised equipment. That's a very good idea for beginners!
cover The Candlemaker's Companion Nothing less than a fabulous book for the more "advanced" candlemakers or for those who want to dig deep into the subject.
The author, Betty Oppenheimer, thoroughly explores all candlemaking topics and often makes use of chemistry and history to give away as much explanations as possible.
This book is about more than just candles: you'll also learn how to make your own candle molds and other items related to candles and candlemaking.
Essential on your bookshelf!!!
Caution though: if you're looking for a projects book, this one is not recommended.
cover The Ultimate Gel Candle Book A beautiful and excellent book that introduces exhaustively the basics of working with candle gel as well as more advanced (and original) projects.
These projects, as I just mentionned, are extremely original and not another repetition of what you may have read elsewhere already.
Should you hesitate between this book and the next one (Gel Candles, 40 creative projects), be assured that both books are complementary and offer different types of projects.
A recommended reading!
